Legacy Motor 455 Super Duty
According to the specifications of Pontiac, the SD 455 in a 4-speed manual tranny produced 290 hp at 4,000 rpm and 395 lb / Ft torque at 3,600 RPM. Very pathetic when compared to the power of today the relationship of displacement, but even so, still a rock star in his day.
Bird Generation 2
1973 Trans Am Firebird is a second generation (Gen 2 is 1970 to 1981). Of less than 5,000 that were built, the 455 SD (Super Duty) with a 4 speed manual transmission is one of the rarest birds out there, with only 72 produced. Produced a total of Pontiac Trans Am 252 with 455 SD engines in 1973.

The 1973 Pontiac Trans Am is the best Transam Pontiac ever built. Not even Knight Rider bird can compare with the TA 73. Growing up, I had a 1977 Trans Am (Smokey & The Bandit style) and was so much fun to drive, if there was a grass greener on the other hand, was the 73 Trans Am This is the dream of the American muscle car!
What is the worst thing that could happen to a 455 SD gas guzzler engine? If you guessed the October 1973 Middle East oil embargo of the OPEC nations, you win. The Arab oil embargo stopped exports to the U.S. and other Western nations to punish the West for supporting Israel (their enemy in the Yom Kippur War) and to exert influence through the power of their oil. Until this event, hardly anyone in the United States worried about its energy consumption. In 1973, gasoline prices skyrocketed several hundred percent followed by the worst recession since the Great Depression. Suddenly, 30-40 cents per gallon looked cheap compared to the 70 + cents was driving.
